Quick Start Guide: The Scoring System
Need help understanding what the numbers mean?
The numbering and percentile scores in your MAPP report, found primarily in the Worker Trait Code System (Section 2), are designed to quantify your individual motivations and preferences against the general working population.
The Level Number (Motivation Level)
The single digit number (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5) in the middle column is the "Level" or the motivational intensity. This is a quick way to gauge the strength of the individual's motivation for that trait.
The lower the level number, the greater the motivation.
| Level | Motivational Intensity | Implication |
| 1 | Compulsive (Highest Motivation) | A core, driving preference; something the individual feels compelled to do in their work. |
| 2 | Highly Motivated | A strong interest and preference that should be a major part of the individual's vocational activity. |
| 3 | Moderately Motivated | The individual is capable and willing to do the task, but it is not a primary driver of their motivation or job satisfaction. |
| 4 | Low Motivation | The activity is not a preferred task and may lead to boredom or burnout if it dominates their job. |
| 5 | Very Low Motivation | The activity should be avoided if possible, as it is a major demotivator. |
The Percentile Score
The number in the column on the far right (e.g., 87, 75, 42) is the percentile score.
What it Represents: The percentile indicates the percentage of the general population that is less motivated or less interested in performing thatspecific task or activity than the individual being assessed.
Interpretation:
High Percentile (e.g., 88%): A high score means that the individual is more motivated than the vast majority of the population to perform that specific task. For example, a score of 88% (Level 1) indicates that only 12% of the general population is more motivated and interested in vocationally expressing this task.
Low Percentile (e.g., 40%): A low score means that a large portion of the population is more motivated than the individual to perform that task, suggesting this activity is likely a low motivator for the person.
Success and Competition: The higher the percentile, the greater the chance the individual has to succeed or compete with the general population in that specific trait area or activity.
| THE PERCENTILE SCORE | WHAT IT MEANS |
| 90 - 100% | Exceptional motivation (Top 10% interest). |
| 60 - 89% | Strong, competitive motivation. |
| 50 - 59% | Average motivation. |
| Below 50% | Activity is likely a low motivator. |
